Premiere Pro has an awesome feature called Transcribe Sequence.
This will automatically generate a written transcript from any audio tracks you have.
This auto-transcribe is super useful if you want to generate captions for your video, whether to overlay directly onto the video or to upload to your video hosting service like YouTube.
But how to export these transcripts to .SRT?
Once you've generated your transcript, you may have done what I did, which is go to Actions > Export > Transcript
.
But this will export a .prtranscript
file, which is Adobe's proprietary transcript format.
It's not readable by a text editor, and there's no known converters out there for this file format.
Most importantly, you can't do much with these .prtranscript
files besides import them into Premiere Pro.
So what's the solution?
The solution is quite simple.
First, create captions from the transcript.
Then, you can export the captions to SRT.
To create captions, just press the CC button:
Modify the settings however you choose.
Then, in the Captions tab, click the three dots and go to Actions > Export > SRT file
.
That's it! Now you have an SRT file that you can use however you need.
This is something I overlooked and couldn't find any helpful results on Google when searching for ".prtranscript to srt" or "convert prtranscript", so I figured I'd make a short guide for anyone with a similar problem.
Hope this helps!
